Leisure Activities on Minorca

Minorca offers an extensive range of different leisure activities. Beside hiking, biking and numerous water sports there are also opportunities for horseback riding, golf playing and go-karting.

Cycling:

Minorca also offers cyclists numerous opportunities to explore the island by bike. In the north as well as in the south there are roads which are often used by cyclists. You can rent at several places bicycles or mountain bikes.

Hiking:

Nature lovers will delight in the numerous small trails which run through Minorca. Since Roman times these routes are available and provide ideal conditions for hiking. Just these trails make it possible to explore the otherwise inaccessible canyons.

Even for inexperienced hikers and those who are not as physically well conditioned, these trails are walkable without limitations. From November to March hardly any tourists are on the island and there is the feeling that the island is yours. Consider warm clothes if you visit the higher areas of the Tramuntana (Minorcas mountains in the north). Above all, the clothing should be windproofed.

Water Sports:

The active water sports enthusiasts will find more than sufficient possibilities to follow their sporting passions. The dive sites off-shore of the Minorca are among the most beautiful in the Mediterranean Sea. The diver may explore a very colorful and rich underwater world as well as numerous spectacularly underwater caves. Due to the very clear water, old ship wrecks which are lying on the seabed can be seen from great distance. There are approximately 20 dive shops on the island that offer both introductory courses as well as a complete diver training. The rental of diving equipment belongs to the standard program of dive centers which are mainly located at the main resort areas as well as in the area around the port. Those who want more relaxation spends their time at one of the many glorious beaches enjoying swimming in a clear and turquiose blue sea. Many beaches also offer an unexpected underwater world that you simply can explore with mask and snorkel.

Horse Riding:

More than a dozen public and private schools offer riding lessons and trail rides.
Most riding schools are located in the interior of the island, a few kilometers away from the resorts. There are riding stables adjacent to the coast around Cala en Bosc and for instance a pony club in Sant Tomas. Lists of actual addresses are available at the tourist information in Ciutadella and Mahon or on various internet sites.

Golf:

The only golf course on Minorca is located in the north of the island. There is an 18-hole golf course, which is open the year and also provides the opportunity to play tennis. The facility is embedded harmonically into the natural landscape and offers the best relaxation at play. The facility also has a restaurant and a club house.

GoKart:

The islanders love it spirited and motorized. The kart tracks conquer Minorca – themed: the sooner, the better!  One of the most popular courses on the island: Karting Rock (Urb. Cala en Bosc, Ciutadella)! The asphalt is perfectly smooth. Rapidly it is also at “Costa Nova Karting”: The track is worn-out, but in this case that’s a good thing. According bumpy is the ride – and therefore a paradise for adventurers! (Costa Nova, on the road Mahon-Ciutadella, shortly after Ferreries). A smaller race track you’ll in Mahon: the track at the Aero Club (Ctra. Sant Lluís, km 3).
